What's Student Insurance Program

The Student Insurance Program (SIP) is a special insurance package that covers people staying abroad on a temporary basis. SIP has been specially designed for students, scientists, members of the educational staff and accompanying family members (husband, wife, children). SIP policy is valid worldwide.

SIP covers your medical and urgent dentistry fees, plus any exceptional expenses such as repatriation and medical transport. Organisation of support services is entrusted to Chubb Assistance – itself a guarantee of dependable, fast professional help.

And that’s not all : SIP also provides you with legal assistance, as well as insurance for accidents, public liability, loss of luggage and personal effects. So you are covered for anything unexpected that might happen.
For more information, please refer to the General conditions and Insurance Information sections.

The Student Insurance Program offers 2 types of insurance solutions for covering illness and healthcare costs

SIP complement to mutual health care cover: If you already have a basic mutual healthcare cover (or if you are entitled to a European Health Insurance Card when visiting countries in the European Economic Area and Switzerland), the SIP Complement option will top up your medical costs in full for a covered accident/illness after the allowance refunded to you by your mutual healthcare fund. Please verify if your primary cover effectively offers reimbursement in your country of destination.

SIP Integral : If you are not a member of a mutual healthcare fund (if you don’t have a basic mutual healthcare cover), then you need the SIP Integral option. Now, if you are a member of a mutual healthcare fund or if you have a basic mutual healthcare cover, please verify if your primary cover effectively offers reimbursement in your country of destination. If not, you will need the SIP Integral option. With SIP Integral option, all the treatment costs for a covered accident/ illness will be refunded to you in full from the first euro, with no maximum amount (hospital stay in a common room).

Whatever the insurance solution you go for, all the cover guarantees in your insurance package remain totally intact.
SIP will reimburse your medical expenses with no maximum amount and without deductible.

It is also possible to enhance your SIP insurance package with extra cover options : “Winter sport, underwater sport, caving” option or “cancellation” option.

Better still, you are only covered for the period you need, because SIP starts to run on the day you leave your home country to go abroad and ends on the date you finally come back, based on the details you enter in the SIP online application.

SIP cover keeps on running even if you take a trip to come home for a break. Your remain covered for a maximum of 4 consecutive weeks, insofar as the temporary stay is linked to a visit to the family or a holiday.

The premium amount is calculated per insured day. By this way, the premium paid will exactly correspond to the reality. Premiums are payable in advance through a secure online payment system.

Upon receipt of your payment, your insurance policy will be e-mailed to you. With your insurance policy, you will also receive your Assistance Card. This card will give you worldwide access to Chubb Assistance 7 days a week, 24hours a day.

The section « My SIP » on the homepage enables you to modify your personal details and extend the duration of your SIP policy.

Cancellation Costs: If the insurer accepts your withdrawing from your insurance purchase within 30 days of your purchase, we will charge 25 EUR of cancellation fees. These costs will be deducted from the refund.
